# Delivery Lead

The person who runs the work — responsible for producing the output on time, on budget, and to scope.

A delivery lead runs the work: the person responsible for planning, coordinating, and driving an initiative to produce its output on time, on budget, and to scope. They own execution at the level of tasks, schedules, and dependencies.

The delivery lead is distinct from the sponsor and the benefits owner. The delivery lead is accountable for producing the output; the sponsor for the investment; and the benefits owner for the benefit the output is meant to create. A capable delivery lead can hit every delivery constraint and still not, by themselves, guarantee a benefit — which is why the other two roles exist.

### Commonly confused

The sponsor or the benefits owner. The delivery lead produces the output; the sponsor owns the investment; the benefits owner owns the benefit.
