# Operating Partner

An operating partner is a member of a private-equity firm's value-creation team who works inside portfolio companies rather than on deals — bringing operating experience to help management execute the value-creation plan. They sit between the investment team and the portfolio company's leadership, translating the thesis into on-the-ground execution.

The operating partner is often the person who carries the shared vocabulary of strategy execution into the portfolio company — reconciling the PE dialect of theses, bridges, and multiples with the operator dialect of programs, benefits, and adoption. Getting that translation right, so both sides are holding themselves to one meaning, is frequently the first job of the role.
