The strategy execution gap is the distance between what leadership intends and what the organization achieves. It opens up when initiatives drift from strategic priorities, when governance is bolted on after the fact, and when benefits are never traced back to the P&L — so no one can tell which work created value.
The gap is usually expressed as failed or under-delivered strategy: a large share of strategic plans stall in execution. Narrowing it depends on keeping a live, traceable connection between strategy, the portfolio of work delivering it, and the financial results it produces.
