The realization rate is the share of promised value actually captured: the benefit realized as a fraction of the benefit a business case, or a strategy, committed to. It is the most direct single measure of the strategy-execution gap, expressed as a percentage rather than a diagnosis.
Unusually, the term is shared without translation across the private-equity and operator dialects — both sides should watch the same number. A portfolio realizing 60% of its promised value has roughly two-fifths of that value still on the table, which is why the realization rate is often the single most revealing figure in a portfolio review.
